Test Phase of Bicycle Carriage in the Bus

Test Phase of Bicycle Carriage in the Bus

In order to extend the service to our customers, the board of directors of the INVG decided to conduct a test phase for the carriage of bicycles in the bus.

The trial period, which is scheduled for one year, begins Monday, April 4th, 2016 and is limited to the INVG-Line 60, because there are predominantly articulated buses in action. In order not to overload the pupil and work transportation, the carriage of bicycles Monday - Friday is permitted not until 9am. However, on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, bike carriages is permissible all day.

Each passenger can only take one bicycle on the bus if there is therefore marked space available. Parents with strollers, wheelchair users, and passengers with mobility aids, such as walkers, have priority in transportation. If the therefor foreseen space is already occupied or not enough space available due to the amount of passengers, the bicycle cannot be taken in the bus. If necessary, the passenger with his bicycle has to make room and leave the bus.

CEO of the INVG Dr. Frank indicates possible cases of conflict: "The test operation of one bus line is well-suited to analyze the for and against of the carriage of bicycles in the bus in practical application - I also set of the consideration of cyclists for others because passengers without a bicycle will have priority as they are absolutely dependent on the bus."

Each passenger is for the security of his or her own bike responsible. Additionally, a child ticket of the according price level has to be bought for the transportation of a bike.

"Special conditions of transportation are valid for the carriage of bicycles" during the test phase.

A final decision about the general carriage of bicycles in buses will be made after the end and evaluation of the test phase.
