Bavarian Government Endorses Statewide Strengthening of Public Transportation

Visit of State Minister Ilse Aigner at the Ingolstadt City Hall Square

After years of negotiation and extensive technical preparation, a uniform association's tariff of the public transport for the entire region of Ingolstadt was being implemented on September 1st, 2018: With only one ticket, passengers can now use all buses and local trains in the counties of Eichstätt, Neuburg-Schrobenhausen, and Pfaffenhofen a.d.Ilm, as well as the city of Ingolstadt.

Ilse Aigner, the representative Bavarian minister, state minister for living, building and traffic, welcomes the implementation of the new association's tariff with her visit in Ingolstadt on October 10, 2018: “The Bavarian government invests heavily in attractive and efficient public transport. The VGI-tariff has closed the gap among transport associations in the Middle of Bavaria. We will further consistently support public transportation in the future with new offers, modern technology, and digitalization for high quality.”

Lord Mayor, Dr. Christian Lösel, currently also chairman of the administration union transport community of the Region Ingolstadt (VGI), evaluates the VGI-tariff as positive: “For almost half a million people, the usage of all local transportation in the region of Ingolstadt is now possible.”

In addition, the presence of six transit buses at the Ingolstadt town hall square, a uniform logo, and the slogan “VGI – we connect the region” is a clear signal for the cooperation of the transport companies. Over 20 bus companies and the three railway lines, agilis, BRB, and DB Regio enable the new standard in the public transportation.

Furthermore, state minister Aigner approves a close cooperation: “It is a good tradition in Bavaria to organize public transport together – private und municipal transport companies, railways and buses, city and regions.”
